Kid's room in Pushkin museum and memorial apartment in St Petersburg

The museum to commemorate the poet is located in the center of St Petersburg, not far from the Palace square and Nevsky prospekt. There, on Moyka River Embankment 12, Pushkin’s family rented an apartment starting from September 1836. Actually this place is the former mansion of Volkonsky family. There in February 1837 Alexander Sergeevich died, being fatally wounded in the duel with Georges-Charles d’Anthès.

After the poet’s death, the apartment went under several major renovations. In autumn 1924 the former Pushkin’s flat was transferred under the governance of the community “Old Petersburg”, which decided to bring the place the initial look. The memorial apartment was reconstructed on the basis of the evidence of the contemporary and a range of historical documents. The first museum opened here in 1927.
