A good alternative to various grocery shops and supermarkets – markets of Saint Petersburg. City markets have a very special atmosphere and a wide range of products that of which you can’t find in some huge stores.
Gastronomic market Dolgoozersky
This reconstructed agricultural market represents an updated fresh-market where customers can buy products almost from all over the world. This place is very stylish and comfortable. There you can purchase lots of farmer goods and be sure that the quality of offered products is high.
The market is equipped with 6 restaurants where you can spend nice time in the middle of shopping. At weekend there are usually workshops and entertaining program for children.

Vasileostrovsky (Andreevsky) market
Called after a close-by Andreesky church, this market has existed almost from the actual city foundation. There people went for meat, fruit and vegetables and, of course, fish. That department was extremely popular.
Recently the market was reconstructed and turned into a modern gastronomic space. Apart from buying different local products, you can rest in one of the cafes and visit a cheese factory.
Address: Bolshoy Prospekt of Vasilievsky island 16
For a long time this market was considered elite and attracted customers ready to pay for organic and quality products. Nowadays, the market has a wide assortment and exists thanks to its reputation.
In fact, it’s advised to visit this market for meat and dairy products. There are also lots of berries and mushrooms for sale (during the season). The products are offered by private local farmers that are properly checked. No need to worry about the quality of goods.
The market is located close to Nevsky prospekt, right in the city centre. So if not for food, visit the place just to get to know how Russian markets look like.

And a bonus…
The place I recommend. My favourite among the agricultural markets of Saint Petersburg is the one close to the Staraya Derevnya (Old Village) metro station. If you want to know some gastronomic preferences of city residents, this is the right place.
There you’ll find meat and fish delicacies, marinated vegetables and mushrooms, as well as cheese, nuts and spices. Foreign guests are also very interested in buying various types of caviar. You can taste it right at the spot and purchase it cheaper than in shops in the city centre.
